Interview with DJ: Shivaxi

How long have you been mixing?: A year and about 5 months

What first got you into music and mixing?: My friend Evan, who one day decided to show me Drum and Bass. The first thing I ever heard was Noisia - The Tide. I was instantly hooked.

What equipment do you use?: I use 2 CDJ 400's, and some crappy mixer from Radioshack that used to be my dads.

What is the significance of your DJ name, How did you get that name?: I took Shiva from the Yiddish word meaning Death, then my friend decided to add an "XI" onto the end to make it sound cooler/masculine. I guess it doesn't exactly mean anything.

Who or what are your influences in music?: Anything that sounds good to me, doesn't matter who it's from or what genre it is.

What do you look for in a beat?: It has to fit with the vibes. Can't just throw in any old beat and make it work.

What was the last vinyl / CD you bought?: I bought "It's Always About The Girl (Lomax Remix) / Mosaic" from beatport. I don't actually have the chance to buy CD's and nor do I have a record player haha. I'm mostly digital.

What is your favorite vinyl / CD of the month and also of all time?: For month, the 4 Rooms EP from junodownload, particularly the track Secrets by Resound. For all time, I'd have to say honestly that I still listen to No Turning Back by Calyx quite a bit, despite it's age.

What software / equipment do you use to produce your music?: Reason 4, and sometimes Audacity.

Do you host any regular events?: Not really. I'm a DJ at www.torrentech.org though. I don't have a set schedule to play however.

What other DJ or producer do you rate at the moment if any?: Flaco from Florida on Bassdrive.com. Big ups.

What plans do you have in the future for yourself?: I'll be traveling to London mid September to check out the DnB scene.
