Urban Dubstep Guerillas is a US based Electronic Dance Music outfit and DJ collective / Producer group consisting of 4 members (DJ Kickadelic, DJ Trip Hopolis, DJ Kheprakorn, and DJ Salmagundi).
How long have you been mixing?: Urban Dubstep Guerillas have been mixing collectively for over five years. In the fall of 2011, they released their first EP, "Grime Warfare," on the Mutant Soundz label which made the top ten of both Drum and Bass Arena and JunoDownloads dubstep music charts and stayed there for eight straight weeks.
What first got you into music and mixing?: Urban Dubstep Guerillas was inspired by many of the early forerunner electronic and dub music sound system groups, for instance Jonzun Crew, Soul Sonic Force, True Playaz, Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi, and On U Sound, to name just a few.
What equipment do you use?: Numark TTXUSB Direct Drive Turntable, Denon DN-S3700 Digital Media Turntable, Numark MixDeck Universal DJ System, Pioneer DJM-2000 Professional DJ Mixer, and QSC KW153 / KW181 Powered Speaker Dual Sub Package.
What is the significance of your DJ name, How did you get that name?: Urban Dubstep Guerillas is a take on the name Urban Dancefloor Guerillas, which was the title of the P-Funk All-Stars first release on George Clinton's Uncle Jam Records in 1983.
Who or what are your influences in music?: In some way, shape fashion or form we are influenced by almost all the music we hear. However to be specific some of our immediate influences include Jonzun Crew, Soul Sonic Force, True Playaz, Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi, On U Sound, P-Funk All-Stars, Funtcase, Benga, Caspa, and DJ Hype.
What do you listen for in a beat?: Urban Dubstep Guerillas is a very rhythm conscious outfit as such what we look for in a beat is a heavy kick. The heavier the kick the better is how we see it.
What was the last vinyl / CD you bought?: Flux Pavilion & Skism feat. Foreign Beggars / Doctor P & Flux Pavilion - Jump Back / Superbad.
What is your favorite vinyl / CD of the month?: Distance - Meanstreak EP.
Do you produce your own music?: Outside of being an Electronic Dance Music outfit and DJ collective, UDG is also a Producer group who creates their own dubstep. In the fall of 2011, they released their first EP, "Grime Warfare," on the Mutant Soundz label which made the top ten of both Drum and Bass Arena and JunoDownloads dubstep music charts and stayed there for eight straight weeks.
What software / equipment do you use to produce your music?: MusicXPC MusicXPC Pro M1523, Ableton Live, Reason, KORE, Fruit Loops Studio, Goldwave, Multiquence, and Sonar.
Do you host any regular events?: Right now UDG's time is spent mainly in the studio putting the finishing touches on their yet untitled sophomore release.
What other DJ or producer do you rate at the moment if any?: We are really feeling the stuff that both Funtcase and Cookie Monsta are doing at the moment.
What plans do you have in the future for yourself?: It is our hope to keep playing and producing hardcore dubstep.
